Happy Halloween!

I love this holiday…which no one would know, due to the fact that I never make a costume, but being a horror movie fan, it’s a good time of year. Haven’t watched too many so far this year, but did make the misses sit through the original Wolfman Sunday night. It’s three Frankenstein’s [...]

Real Unix

The latest alpha of REALBasic now supports calling the Unix command line and getting results on Mac OS X Public Beta. This is very cool.
This means it will be relatively trivial for a lot of existing Mac developers with some Unix savvy to build nice, native UIs for many Unix tools on Mac OS [...]

Harry Potter

Well, I have succumbed to the Harry Potter craze. Our friends Dave and Vi loaned us the first book, which Katie plowed through and passed along to me. I finished it over the weekend and started the second last night.
Not great literature, but very fun, entertaining reads, which is about what I look [...]

ProTools Free!

Hey, I’m psyched! Digidesigns has released a free version of ProTools, their multitrack digital audio program…Mac and Windows versions.
I’ve used a free version they released briefly a few years ago, but it didn’t work with newer versions of the MacOS very well…but it’s a solid program for what it does, and one of the [...]

Classes

Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow I’m in classes on using “Axapta”, the new ERP solution we’re working on implementing at “ALT”.
9-4 is too long to be in a class. It’s just difficult to pay attention…of course, it’s kinda boring for me, too…because it’s end-user training — ie, how to write up orders, handle inventory transactions, [...]

Goofy Mutts

Katie put a funny picture of our dogs up on her site. They’re constantly at each other lately — in a playful manner, of course.
Oh, she’s got my latest seasonal hairstyle, as well, if you scroll down a little.

Hate/Hate Relationships

I’ve had an on-going hate/hate relationship with E-mail clients for many years now. I’ve tried many, and never really been happy with any for one reason or another…or more often, for many reasons. Outlook Express 5.0/Mac actually came pretty darn close to pleasing me interface and general behavior-wise, although the data-engine stinks and [...]

UNo MAS updates

“icon-cd”
Two new reviews posted at “UNo MAS”. One, by me, about my beloved Gourd’s new record, the other by Jon Jolles, RE: The Eels.

New looks

Gotta admin, I really like the new look over at DaveNet and Scripting News. I didn’t notice a specific credit, but I’m assuming the guy from Weblogger did them. Nice job. I haven’t used td backgrounds before, I expect I will next time I do a redesign on a site…they give a [...]

Protest Vote

As we draw closer to the election, I want to take another brief opportunity to vent…Gush and Bore (as Politically Incorrect’s Bill Mayer likes to refer to them) are both pawns of a corrupt and defensive power structure. Please vote, just don’t vote for either of them!
Why? Because neither of them will produce [...]

R.I.P, Irene

Our neighbor Irene Harris passed away last night. She was a very sweet lady, 91 years-old, who lived next door with her daughter Lanell. They have a beautiful flower garden in their yard that I’ve quite enjoyed, and was Irene’s pride and joy. It was somewhat unique for being planted in a [...]

Python 2.0

“icon-mac”
Python 2.0 is now a final release. I just love this language, and wish I could use it more. Here’s the changes since v1.6. The new “String Methods” are making me drool.

Conversant vs. Manila

Being involved with “Conversant”…I have generally agree with my boss, Seth Dillingham, that a direct comparison between Manila ( Userland’s CMS for Frontier ) and Conversant ( Macrobyte’s Groupware Platform on Frontier ) was unnecessary, though many have asked for it.
Well, Seth’s taken off the kid gloves, as it were on his site, Truer Words. [...]
