Junkyard Wars

I spent the better part of Friday fully engaged with the television, watching the Junkyard Wars marathon on The Learning Channel. My friend “Motorcycle Dave” and I are ready to signup.

This show is brilliant. Anyone who has any tendency toward tinkering will love it…it’s a must watch. Entertaining and educational, and very funny at times.

The basic setup is this, two teams of 4 people (3 contestants and an “expert”) are given a challenge at the beginning of the day. Challenges include things like getting a car from the bottom of a lake to shore, building a walking machine for a 50 meter race, building an amphibious vehicle. They have 10 hours to build their machines from what they can find in a junkyard. The next day, the resulting machines faceoff and the winner moves on to playoffs. These teams show and incredible amount of skill and ingenuity.

If you choose to root for someone, beware that if a team w/ bikers is involved, it will probably win.
