Imitation and Flattery

I can hardly complain, since Userland’s push for RSS rendering got me started on doing an RSSBox macro for Conversant — but I do think this is kinda funny.

Gee, do you think they looked at the docs on my implementation? Those parameters sound pretty familiar.

I can hear the sounds of “Doh, I shoulda thought of that!” echoing through Dave Winer’s house now. I’m not upset about it, but I do think it’s rude. When I did my version, I send him an e-mail saying, “Hey, thanks for the ideas — this is what I’ve done with it.” You’d think he could take the time to do the same.

He did at least mention on scripting.com that he was glad you were working on
it, when you first told him about it.

When I saw their rssbox stuff, my first (stupid) thought was that perhaps you
had copied him. Duh, I obviously wasn’t thinking about all the history involved
    here…

I’m not claiming any great originality. I had just got finished reading
some of DW’s recent comments on how the press always left Userland out of
discussions of SOAP and it struck me as strange that he does the same thing
to anyone he gets ideas from.
