Undying
I’ve slowed down my already somewhat unreliable weblogging of late…this is due to a number of reasons, including: Spring, work, and especially Clive Barker’s Undying.
What a great game! I’ve always been a sucker for a good 1st person shooter, but I’ve felt rather orphaned by the high profile offerings of late. Multi-player/Death Match stuff can be very fun, but I really like “mission style” play and haven’t much cared for the Quake Arena/Unreal Tournament type games. Undying has the best and most involving story I’ve ever encountered in a game that still maintained a true action/shooter feel throughout.
The atmosphere is superbly done as well, with some of the best use of sound I’ve ever heard in a game. I actually get chills sometimes while I play.
This game isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s really fun and involving. It also does a good job of varying the challenges it offers, not always relying solely on brute force to accomplish a goal.
I highly recommend it to any gamer.
