The new guitar

I am now the proud owner of a Taylor 414 acoustic guitar.

I’ve played a lot of instruments recently, and decided this was the best fit for me. Action’s smooth as silk, and I really couldn’t find a player review that had negative things to say about Taylors — they are widely considered to be the best mass-market luther shop in operation today.

The 414 went for $1189, not too bad. I might have made due with the $999 314 model, but it really didn’t feel as nice. The models a few rungs higher on the ladder ( 500s, 600s ) really didn’t add anything over the 400-series other than fancier bindings and detailing — which is nice, but I’ve never really considered worth the extra $400-500.

The sound is a bit bright, but that’s common with new high-end acoustics, it will settle down and get “boomier” in the next year or two.
