Self-serve checkout

I just ran up to the corner K-mart for some Drano. I generally try to avoid the K-mart, as it’s not the most pleasant shopping experience around, but it is close to my house.
They have installed about 1/2 a dozen self-serve checkouts. I’d never even heard of these. You walk up, scan [...]

Conversant updates

I’ve written two new page types for Conversant. One, the Directory Mirror allows you serve portions of a conversation through different template and stylesheets selections, ie, for creating a print version of stories. The other, an Enclosure Page allows you to serve binary content stored as a message attachment in your conversation through [...]

Powerbook for sale

My Powerbook is for sale, if anyone out there’s interested. It’s a 400-mHz G3, Lombard/Bronze keyboard model, w/ 392 meg RAM, DVD-ROM, and I’ll probably sell it with a external USB 4x/2x/8x Sony CD-RW. I’m still looking into a reasonable price to ask. It has a unique history as well, I won [...]

Cell phones

Looks like we’re giving in to the cell phone craze. Went shopping for one last night. It’s for Kt. I hate the things, but have to admit having one for emergencies doesn’t sound like such a bad idea…and I want to be sure she’ll be able to reach me for the big [...]

Visit to the OB

This month’s visit to the OB was this morning. Kt is seeing some of the more annoying, but harmless, side effects of pregnancy a bit earlier than normal due to the twins ( mainly swelling feet )…but everything looks hunky-dory. Another ultrasound in 2 weeks!

Student loans

Well, I cut a check on Saturday and mailed it to Sallie Mae to pay off my final consolidated student loan. It’s a good feeling, knowing they can’t come repo my education.

Email software

As I’ve mentioned here before, I’ve had a lot of trouble finding an email application that I really like. Email is such a huge part of my day, that it’s been frustrating to find such a lack of options out there. Well, I’m giving two new email clients a chance lately — and [...]

John Lee Hooker

John Lee Hooker died today. John Lee was one of the greats of blues, and American music. His shuffle style of blues was very unique and influential on many in rock and other genres outside the blues community. His swaggering guitar embodied the freeform improv of the blues as well as any, [...]

More on Smart Tags

Lots of good commentary on Microsoft’s Smart Tags at Scripting News today…including some typically brain dead commentary from a Microsoft evangelist.
I installed Office XP, and have been experiencing Smart tags for the last couple of weeks, not in IE, but just in the Office apps. I, as yet, haven’t found them useful, but see [...]

Dave got busted.

My best friend Dave got arrested the other day.
Sounds like a pretty clear case of vehicular profiling to me. Dave rides a Harley. He’s also got a concealed handgun license. It so happens that the concealed handgun he had on him at the time he was pulled over the other day had [...]

Church signage

I enjoying reading the rotating words of wisdom on the signs in front of a number of churches in our neighborhood. One, frankly, because the it rarely seems to make sense. The message itself is usually straightforward, but the statement is convoluted. At any rate, the pastors at two local churches seem [...]

The Internet sucks w/o Google.

Kt couldn’t get to Google yesterday, or for several days appearantly. We both agreed that the Internet sucks w/o Google.
I rarely ever use any other search engine anymore. I remember wasting tons of time plowing through results on Excite and building extremely complex queries on Alta Vista to try to find what should [...]

Happy with myself

I’m kinda happy with myself today. I’ve been working on some new tools to manage email communication in Axapta, our ERP environment at work. It’s not mind boggling stuff, but I had to do a lot more low-level coding than I would usually like to do, and it all seems to work great!
Mainly, [...]
