Texas survey
Got an interesting call from the State of Texas today, doing a poll about citizen’s opinions on a variety of issues. I was truly surprised by the wide range of issues and depth of the survey ( about 20 minutes on the phone ). I’d say about 1/3 of the survey related to national politics, particularly the war on terror, how I thought it was going, what I thought it’s purpose was, etc. — also various economic outlook opinions were solicited.
The question that struck me as most odd in this section was the relatively straightforward: “Who do you believe is winning the war on terrorism? A) The US, B) The terrorists, C) Neither”. I said neither. Other interesting questions included what I thought it’s purpose was, with options such as “Capture Bin Laden, Put new government in place in Afghanistan, etc.”
Also, they asked about the Anthrax scare, if it had impacted me, if I had altered my handling of mail, and if I felt personally threatened.
They then asked a variety of state specific questions about my opinion of the current governor, auto-home insurance regulation issues, sex education/abortion and such. They asked several specific questions about the “day after pill”, whether it should be available at emergency rooms for rape/incest victims, whether it should be available generally, etc.
They also asked a number of questions about my religious affiliation, and whether I thought religion was increasing it’s influence in America.
It was a pretty interesting survey, glad I participated. I was surprised how in-depth it was…I’ve rarely participated in a survey that didn’t seem geared toward soliciting a particular response on a particular focused set of issues.
