RIP, Dan’s Bar

Dan’s Bar closed this week. Dan’s was a small place here in Denton that was really the only place in Denton bringing in interesting music on a regular basis. I’m not really surprised to see it go, because I never thought they could have been making any money — but it’s a shame just the same.

Dan’s tried hard to catch interesting Americana bands and book them for little Thursday night gigs here in Denton as fill-ins on tours that brought them to Dallas-Fort Worth over the weekend. I rarely want to go all the way to Dallas, or deal with the Dallas crowds, for a band anymore — but having them stop in Denton in a more intimate, relaxed atmosphere was nice.

That said, I can’t claim I’ve been a great supporter of Dan’s, because I’m getting too old to stay out at a smoky bar until 2am on a school night, but I was glad to have it here anyway.
