sleep, or the lack thereof
Babies sleep a lot. Unfortunately for parents, they don’t do it in very long stretches, because babies also eat a lot, and often. Asher & Keegan are still wanting to eat about every 2 hours during the day — if we’re lucky, 3 hours at night.
Clearly, I get the better end of this deal, because Kt’s the one that’s actually got to do the feeding. That’s a lot of feeding…considering they’ll spend on average about a 1/2 hour per, and though she occassionally feeds them together it’s somewhat clumsy to do, so you can double that to an hour per feeding. This means Kt spends roughly 1/2 her time feeding them. Including at night…which also means that she rarely gets to sleep more than an hour or so straight. I’m lucky enough to get a 2 hour stretch in here and there.
After doing this routine for 6 weeks, Kt and I have looked at each other several times and wondered what people with one baby are complaining about. That would be easy! You could actually get stuff done when the baby laid down for a while — whereas with twins, you generally get one settled just about when the other wakes up, or wants to eat, or whatever.
At any rate, the point of this story is that I’m tired. Functional, but tired…and very much looking forward to the boys extending their stretches of sleep at night. I also wanted to state what incredible respect I have for my wife, and all she’s doing for our kids. Keep it up, sweetie!
