NCAA notes

We went to the first round games of the NCAA tournament in Dallas yesterday. It would have been a bit much to leave the babies all day, so we only went to the two games in the afternoon, and sold our tickets to the evening session. We saw Oklahoma (2) vs. UIC (15), and Xavier (7) vs. Hawaii (10).

UIC managed to keep the game interesting through the first half, but they were clearly not the powerhouse that OK is and they lagged behind later in the game. We routed for Hawaii in the second game, mostly because they had a great band…Hawaiian shirts and all. They looked really good in the first half, but Xavier most have really gotten chewed at halftime, because they picked up the D and Hawaii just started looking really tired. Oh well.

Tomorrow, we’ll see the winners of those games and the winners of the evening sessions play. The second round is always more competitive, and the house should be rocking for these games, with Texas and Oklahoma both playing ( not each other ). When the fans get involved, it really improves the experience. Face it, no one in Texas really cared too much about Hawaii or Xavier.

Sunday’s second round games were a lot more fun than Friday’s games. The Texas fan’s were out in force, and the Longhorn’s dominated in the 1st half of their game against MS State, but State worked their way back into it in the 2nd half and made it a bit of a nailbiter. The OU vs. Xavier game was really good, too, until about the last 5 minutes, when Xavier’s spunk sort of petered out.

It was a fun time, and was really nice to get out with my lovely wife. We missed the babies, but it’s good to get some time away, and Gran and Pappy did a great job taking care of them ( Thanks! ).
