Signs of life

The DNS changes are percolating, and after a week in the technology trauma room, Macrobyte and it’s Conversant hosted sites are coming back to life.
Seth must be exhausted. I wish I could have helped him more in getting things back up and running, but I’ve had my own share of unexpected preoccupations this week.

R.I.P., Lanell

Our next door neighbor Lanell Harris died sometime last night or this morning. Her nephew came over in the afternoon to visit and found her.
When we first moved to this neighborhood several years ago, Lanell was to first to come over and welcome us. She lived next door with her mother, who passed [...]

9 months

Kt posted a 9 month update on the twins last night. They’re really awesome…it’s been incredible to watch them grow day by day.

Bruce Lee: A Warrior’s Journey

I happened on the movie Bruce Lee: A Warrior’s Journey on AMC quite by accident one night several weeks ago, but only saw a snippet of it — it was on again the other night and I watched it.
It’s a very well done documentary, with lots of interviews and rare footage of Lee, especially in [...]

More downtime

Man, downtime seems to be the theme of the week, for me and for Macrobyte and Seth. Tonight we had a storm come through and knock out the power to the whole block for most of the evening. Weird. Bathing the babies by flashlight was interesting though.

Verisign

Verisign sucks. Definitely moving my domains when they expire. Get this — the password I had choosen for my account did not work when I went to update my DNS records. I called, and was informed they couldn’t reset my password for me, because I could not answer their challenge question — [...]

Downtime

Our home phone line, and DSL, where non-functional from about noon on Friday until midday today ( Saturday ). It was a bad wire out in the alley behind our house.
Everything seems back to normal now.

AT&T Sucks

Anybody know anything about the laws governing Telcos? At work, we’ve been in a billing dispute with AT&T for the better part of a year now…largely involving them being completely incompetent and non-responsive to the issue.
In the meantime, we’ve switched our voice T1 to Sprint, and have local service all through Verizon. None [...]

RE: Downtime

Well, I’m back up it seems. Most people shouldn’t have trouble getting here or sending us e-mail now. Verisign’s being a pain about letting me log on to update my DNS records, but my secondary DNS is the same and it’s been updated, so all should be well.

Downtime

FYI, This site and my email may dissapear for a while later this afternoon. My ISP needs ot move me to a different IP block, and I’ve got to do the related router reconfig and DNS updates to match, so I may appear to be off-line for a while.

I’m finding this ZVON XSLT Reference very useful this week.

RIP, Alan Lomax

I’ve been a little slow to get around to posting about Alan Lomax’s death, mainly because I haven’t had time to write a proper eulogy.
I think Alan, and his father John, Lomax are some of the most important Americans in the history of our great nation — more importantly, they were some of the most [...]

Back ‘em up solid

Just got a new 120 gig drive for my home server ( that serves this site, amongst others ). Finally have some real, easy backup space. I was backing up only what I had to backup to CD-Rs, but that was tedious, and I wasn’t doing it often enough. Now I can [...]

Cousin

My cousin Kam ( Dad’s brother’s daughter ) is here visiting for a day or two in the middle of her move from Georgia out to Portland. It’s been years since I’d seen her ( 5-6? ) and even longer since I’ve seen anyone else in her immediate family. We’re kind of a [...]
