Verisign
Verisign sucks. Definitely moving my domains when they expire. Get this — the password I had choosen for my account did not work when I went to update my DNS records. I called, and was informed they couldn’t reset my password for me, because I could not answer their challenge question — which was “What are the last 4 digits of your social security number?” I think I know the answer to that, but appearantly they think they know better.
The guy on the phone explains that sometimes their computer just makes up the answers to the challenge questions. Yikes!
The only alternative to gain access to my account, is to fax them a request with the cover sheet they provide, including my company letterhead with a letter stating a number of pieces of information and signed by an officer of the company. I put that together. It was about a 4 sentence letter, one of which read, “Please set my new password to ‘xxx’.” A week later I get email back saying that my request did not include a new password to use, so they reset my password to “password”. How’s that for high security. Make me jump through hoops so that you can reset my password to “password”!!!!!
Then, I find I can’t update my Host record from that account, even though it’s attached to the same contact ID. This morning I’ve posted three request to do MAIL-FROM authenticate updates to my HOST record — and never received the e-mail I’m suppose to get to do it!!!!!
Argh.
