Unlucky street

Our quite little neighborhood is taking a bad turn lately. I posted about our next door neighbor Lanelle’s death two weeks ago…but I didn’t mention the specifics. She shot herself.

Yesterday, another neighbor two doors up and across the street has done the same. I didn’t know him personally because he’s been very sick for years, but I knew his wife who’s very sweet and has been active in the neighborhood. He was also elderly, and I guess decided it wasn’t worth going on anymore. I feel for his wife. Lanelle didn’t really leave anyone behind.

We’ve also found out that in the last couple of years, there’s been three other suicides on our street in the next block down. Also all elderly people who decided to end it for whatever reasons.

That certainly is a creepy turn of events. I guess that one person making such a decision, might inspire others who are frustrated with thier circumstance, but….. It also does seem that the average age of residents in your immediate area is higher than many neighborhoods, thus there are more seniors dealing with challenges of reduced mobility, isolation, etc.

At risk of offending some of your readers, just out of curiosity, were guns used in both cases? … not that I want to stereotype Texans or anything.

Actually, around here that’s assumed. The kind of questions we usually get are “where did he shoot himself?” or “what kind of gun did he use?” ( That would be my friend Dave’s question ).

    But, yes…guns.

Sorry to hear it ended that way for them. I can understand the extra shock that method caused you and Kt too.
