Back to School

My company’s sending me to Java training next week, at my request. I’d been making noise about taking a class like this for awhile, but shut up about it this year because sales have been off. This was a great opportunity, however, because friend and former co-worker ( @Macrobyte ), Sean McMains will [...]

3 days

There’s a little status line at the bottom of an iTunes window. It always tells you the number songs you have selected in a playlist, their total play time, and the amount of disk space they take up. I just noticed for the first time that when I have my whole library select, [...]

altfabrication.com

Well, the big work project I’ve been on for the last couple of months is “live” — a new website. It’s not going to knock you off your feet or anything, it’s a pretty standard website, but it took a lot to put together the backend, which is fully integrated with our ERP to [...]

Death to Smoochy

Watched Death to Smoochy last night. Very funny. Not quite as funny as Shakes the Clown, but a similar warped behind-the-scenes take on children’s entertainment.

RE: Where do I vote?

First Baptist on Malone. That’s my new polling place. Guess I’ll be swinging by on the way home from work.

Where do I vote?

Seems they’ve moved my polling place. Drove by the church it’s always been at to vote on the way in to work, but there was nobody there. The Denton County Elections website is down and their phone is busy. Oh well, I’ve got all day to figure it out.

Steve Earle and Marah

New reviews, courtesy of Jon Jolles, over at the UNo MAS site — he really like the new Steve Earle and is not too keen on the new Marah…too bad, Marah’s first was excellent.

RE: Hardware hell, resolved?

Well, at the moment at least, it looks like my hardware problems were not, in fact, hardware problems and seemed to be resolved. Updated BIOS, and driver reinstalls seem to have it working now…we’ll see if it holds up.

Hardware hell

My windows laptop, which I regrettably rely on at work, is having fits. Starting over the weekend, it just randomly shuts down…complete power outage, no blue screen of death, no system dump. After much effort today, I’ve now updated it to the latest firmware and drivers from Gateway, and we’ll see if that [...]

Red Hat 8.0

Installed Red Hat 8.0 on a Pentium II box I had laying around the office last week. Thinking of using it for email.
I’m very impressed. v6 is the last Red Hat I installed, and probably the last linux distro I installed, actually…they’ve come a long way. It’s a very easy install, lots [...]
