Back to the Movies
After a year off from the movies ( not intentional, we just never had time ), we’ve started renting some again since we got the el-cheapo DVD player for X-mas. What we’ve been discovering is, Kt and I are a pretty tough audience to please.
Friday night we watched Minority Report. Visually stunning, and probably worth a view for the production design — but generally otherwise pretty lame, I thought. Not good enough to hold it’s own on pure action, but it also really failed to investigate the tantilizing themes with enough depth to hold my interest either. Ah well…can’t win ‘em all.
Last weekend we watched A Beautiful Mind. I was not thrilled. Excellent acting, but very flat storytelling throughout. I did remain interested and guess I did enjoy watching it on the whole…but don’t really feel I came away from it with much. But, I guess that’s asking a lot from Hollywood.
On the other end of the spectrum, last night we watched XXX. I really enjoyed it. Which goes to show that if don’t expect to get anything out of a movie, it’s difficult to be dissapointed. Purely stupid action and stunts. No hint that anything more than that was intended.
Not sure what’s next on the list…probably time to stick to dumb comedies for a while.

hey dude,
check out Ghost Ship when it comes out on DVD. It was panned by the critics, but I found it to be scary and not at all the “same old” thing.
Also, another excellent movie that just came out is “the borne identity.” Smart and well acted.
other scary movies that rocked were Session 9 (already out) and The Ring, which I’m sure you heard about already!!
