OpenOffice Writer: For all your TPS Reports
I’ve got the RedHat 9 installer running on a machine on the desk behind me. I happen to glance over, and what’s on the splash screen? “OpenOffice.org Writer: For all your TPS Reports.” in a really pretty graphic and everything.
Man, Office Space is one of my favorite movies, but I never expected jokes [...]

Greg Pierce
Well, for the first time I’m the #1 result for “greg pierce” on Google — I’m feeling lucky! I don’t check terribly often, so it may have been that way for awhile. Scoble posted about “egosurfing” being added to the dictionary, so I had to try.

Shopping carts
I’m working on updating my work’s website for full shopping cart functionality. I’m not going to diverge too far from standard practice, but have a few ideas for different ways of handling thing that are appropriate to our product line. I’m interested, however, in UI ideas…do you have a favorite webstore? One [...]

Spam’s really getting out of hand
I was looking at some of my spam this morning because I caught part of a Law & Order SVU last night that centered around it. This is the actual text of a spam message I received overnight…really bad (I took out the web address and profanity, but I left in the email addresses. [...]

Busy, busy
Haven’t been posting much, because I’ve been so busy. We’ve been working on getting our house ready to go on the market Sept. 1. Oy…lots of cleanup, lots of things to sift through. Spent the afternoon Sunday out in the 102 degree heat removing storm windows and cleaning them…boy, that was fun. [...]

Chimeras
NPR had an interesting piece this morning on Chimera twins (Audio)…a phenomenon that I had not heard of. Apparently, sometimes two fertilized eggs, that would normally be destined to become fraternal twins, can merge very early in the process and produce a single child — with two people’s DNA.
In the piece, they [...]

HP 10-key
Among it’s many announcements today, HP announced a new 17″ laptop…and, finally, someone has introduced one that used that extra width to provide a real 10-key number pad on the keyboard.
The lack of a number pad has always been one of my big problems with laptops, and I have USB number pads on my desk [...]
