The Soul of a Man

Wow. I just finished watching The Soul of a Man, the second installment of PBS’s series “The Blues”, directed by Wim Wenders. It was every bit as strong as Scorcese’s opening night film was weak.
Wenders meandered through portraits of Skip James and J.B. Lenoir — two relatively obscure but influential blues men — [...]

Spat of registrations

I’ve gotten five registrations of my shareware game Turtle Dice in the last week. It’s really odd, but I always get registrations in sudden spats. But, I can never trace them to any particular mention of the game anywhere from logs, etc. It’s been years since I’ve really done any updates to [...]

The Blues starts Sunday

Reminder, The Blues starts Sunday on PBS. I’m really excited. I wish they would spread it out over 7 weeks, rather than 7 nights in a row, but I’m still excited. I fear that my domination of the TV next week will cause friction at home, but I hope not…I feel I’ve [...]

Samba 3.0

Samba 3.0 is a big release. I’m going to give it a little while for the release code to sink in, but I plan to implement this at work…because the cost savings are too much to overlook.
Currently, added 5 client access licenses to my Windows 2000 servers would cost me over $850. Adding [...]

RE: Spambayes

Back to POPFile. Spambayes was unusuable for me…the web interface puts all unprocessed messages on one unpaginated page. That works OK if you get a little mail, but I get a ton…and I couldn’t get the smtp proxy working to train it.

RE: Light the Night Walk

Thanks to everyone who sponsored Kt and I in the Light the Night Walk. The Denton walk was a big success, and hopefully will top last year’s $450,000 mark.

Spambayes

If I seem a little grumpy today, it’s because I’m in the process of switching from POPFile to Spambayes for my spam filtering and I’ve got to retrain the filters. POPFile does a pretty good job, and I like the web interface — but, it’s been getting more and more inaccurate for my lately, [...]

Ballad of Bilbo Baggins

There’s a strange resemblance between Hobbit ears and Vulcan ears, don’t you think?

UI developer’s desktop

Are you a developer? Do you do UI design work? Do you, like most developer’s use insane screen resolutions, like 1600 x 1200? Do you find yourself wondering if your UI will work on those crappy little screens everybody else has and fiddle with your display resolution to check, only to be [...]

The Blues

I’m really looking forward to PBS’s The Blues series — produced by Martin Scorsese…with installments directed by Clint Eastwood, Wim Wenders, and other filmmakers with a true love of the blues. I love the blues, but have been in a phase where I haven’t been listening to it a lot…I expect this show will [...]

Returned G5

Gack, a friend at work bought a G5…and he returned it! Bad, bad…very bad.
I understand why he did. He’s a switcher, who runs a wedding photography business. The G5 had issues with his USB 2.0 devices. After every boot, it would work with them once ( like for one scan ) [...]

Light the Night Walk

I’ll be walking, and pushing a stroller, in the Light the Night Walk, a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Friday night. If you’d like to sponsor me, please email me and let me know ( greg at turtleprod dot com ). No amount is too small.
I am personally a Lymphoma survivor, [...]

RIP, John Ritter

Seth points out that John Ritter died also. I’m more or less neutral on John Ritter, but reading the obit, I found out for the first time that he was Tex Ritter’s son. Interesting.

RIP, Johnny Cash

I don’t know where to begin on this one. Johnny was the greatest. This picture may not represent how he would want to be remembered, but I think it’s a good one anyway.
