Flushing the DNS cache on OS X
For the first time, I had the need to flush my DNS cache on Mac OS X…and I found I didn’t know how. Maybe there’s a better way, but this tip worked for me. Just restart the lookupd process.
ps aux | grep lookupd // to get the PID
sudo kill -HUP [PID]
FYI, on Windows, [...]

Bonded Lightning Protection
Another new Conversant website, designed by yours truly, has gone live today. It’s a minor update to the website for my employers construction division, Bonded Lightning Protection.

BBEdit alternatives?
Anyone out there have any suggestions for a good text editor for Mac OS X that supports tabs? Basically, I want BBEdit, but with a tabbed window for multiple documents. I don’t need a lot of fancy features…but do want syntax coloring, good search and replace functions, etc.

Cellphone
I’ve generally prided myself on not giving in to the cellphone craze. We got one for Kt while she was pregnant, and it’s been handy…but I’ve remained “out-of-touch”, as it were. Well, I’m going to be working from home some after the move, plus the longer commute puts me in-between phones longer, etc….so [...]

G5
I ordered one of these today. I can’t wait. I’ll probably just have it setup at work for the next month until we move into the new house, but that’s fine…I can deal.

Matrix ping-pong
It seems a little stupid at first, but stick with it, it’s really funny.

Hive Project
Cool article on MySA.com about the Hive Project, a large scale collaborative quilt containing some of my Mom’s work. The work is currently showing in San Antonio, if anyone is down that way. There’s a better picture at the project website, also.

RE: Moving offices
The office move is complete. I think I’ll like it better, once I get a little more settled in.

It’s sad
I hate to hear about a friend getting a divorce. Especially a friend who didn’t see it coming.

Let it be….naked
I’m looking forward to the new stripped down version of “Let it Be”. The Beatles could really rock, something that often gets overlooked…I think removing Phil Spector’s shadow from this material will really show that.

Moving offices
I’m moving my office at work…didn’t have to, but they are shifting some people around, and I offered. There’s a bigger room behind the server room, near where I am now. It’s really too big for a standard office, but it’ll give me room to spread out and work on machines when necessary, [...]

Panther GM?
I want it now! A lot of the features sound good, but I really want the improved iDisk. With that, and iSync, I’ll be moving back and forth between my home and work mac much more efficiently.

Archiving dynamic sites
One of the problems of have dynamic websites is that it’s a little difficult to snapshot them. There’s a number of archiving programs out there, but the ones I’ve tried in the past haven’t worked that well for me.
Today I tried HTTrack and I love it! Kt and I have talked about burning [...]
