Root canal
Had my first root canal this morning. I’d just assume not have any more. I was numbed up good, but it’s hard holding your mouth open that long. I was in the dentist’s chair for 3 hours! Novocain is just wearing off, I hope it doesn’t hurt too much.

Entertainment Center
The biggest project I’ve been working on at the new house is a built-in entertainment center. Just got it stained and poly’d in time for x-mas so it could all be assembled. It still looks a little boring, since most of the character will be in the doors — which are not yet [...]

Holidays
I’m back at work today, after a pleasant week off for the holidays. My parents came to visit, and we had a great x-mas. The boys were really excited about it all, and had a blast with all their new toys. We had our first party at the new house Saturday night, [...]

Save the Bottom Line
I hope they save the Bottom Line. I didn’t see too many shows there in my New York days, mostly because it was a bit pricey for my student budget, but I did see a number of shows that I quite enjoyed — and it’s a place with a lot of music history, which [...]

NPR and commuting
I’ve found that now that I have a longer commute, I’m a much better informed person on a variety of topics. Thanks, NPR!
( Besides, now I can have better conversations with my friend Jamie, who often starts a discussion with, “The other day, on NPR…”
)

The poor corner store
The Lone Star Country Corner convenience store next to where I work has had a tough week. I work in the boonies…there’s not much out here except us and the corner store (which also has a feed store attached to it).
Over the weekend, a young girl who had just gotten her driver’s license apparently [...]

Plan B
It’s general pretty hard to offend my sensibilities, but I must admit that marketing RU-486 under the name Plan B seems in poor taste.

AppRocket
CandyLabs is currently demonstrating how to tick off potential customers. They ended the beta period on AppRocket, without having a final release or new beta ready.
I had already come to rely on this app, and organized my windows laptop around it…and was ready to register it as soon as it went final. Now, [...]

Entertainment center
As of about 10pm last night, I finally substantially completed the built-in home entertainment center I’ve been working on. I took a picture, but haven’t uploaded it from the camera yet.
Actually, it’s really far from complete, I kinda lied. It’s ready to stain, and then use. It is, however, still missing the [...]

Happy birthday to me
I’m now as close to 40 as I am to 30. How disturbing. Anyway…I took the day off work, had a nice lunch with my lovely wife and took a 3 hour nap, played with the boys. All around a pretty good day. ![]()

New hands
I need new hands. It hurts to type. I’ve got about a dozen various boo-boos on my fingers ( I can be a little clumsy with tools ) and very dry skin from overwashing that is cracking on me.
On the bright-side, progress is being made on the built-in home entertainment center. Just [...]

Dantz sucks
I’ve used Retrospect as my backup solution for 8 years. On both macs and windows.
Over the years, Dantz has steadily increased the cost of the software, and made the licensing more convoluted, but I’ve kept up with the “multi-server” licensing because I felt the were really making the product better.
But today I’m really ticked. [...]
