Welcome to the Funhouse

My glasses came in this afternoon. It’s really weird! On the one hand, it’s awesome. I can read signs blocks away driving, things across the room are crystal clear. On the other hand, I feel like I’m a drunk a house of mirrors. The astigmatism in my right eye is [...]

New laptop

After various struggles with my Windows laptop at work, I got approval to order a new one. The need arose for our in-house engineer to have a laptop, so it worked out well and I can give him my old one as a hand-me-down.

I ordered a Dell Inspiron 8600. As much as the [...]

Glasses ordered

I ordered glasses last night. Kt was making fun of me for being so excited about it. I got the flex-titanium frames that bend and anti-glare, scratch-resistant coatings. I think I may eventually want the ones that become sunglasses auto-magically, but I’ll wait and see on that.

Blind as a bat

Holy cow, I’m blind as a bat! At least in one eye. I guess part of me realized I really needed glasses for the better part of year, but I kept thinking it wasn’t all that bad…it is! My right eye is 20/200 with astigmatism…my left eye has apparently been carrying me [...]

Eye check

I’m going to get my eyes checked at lunch. I’ve never worn glasses, but I’m pretty sure I need them…anything across the room or farther away is getting pretty blurry.

I’m going to have to stop posting about technical things or this site is going to turn into a help desk.

Dean speech

Ok, being the only American who somehow managed to avoid seeing the infamous Howard Dean “YEAARGH” speech, I set out to find a video and see what the big deal was. Well, it actually took me little while, but I found it here…and, lord, what’s the big deal?!?!?!

It’s not that crazy. It’s like [...]

Paul Burch

Been enjoying Paul Burch this week, thanks to Jim for the tip. Really nice mellow country, with both a traditional bent and a modern sound.

MD vs. Duke

My Terps made a good effort down the stretch, but couldn’t quite catch Duke…oh, well. Young team. Lots of young team type mistakes…this team could really be good next year.

Vote Democrat?

I think I might just be able to convince myself to vote for a Democrat in the Fall this year. I generally vote Libertarian, though I’m only Libertarian on legal issues — not really social/economic/diplomatic ones.

Bush is just soooo bad. I can’t believe he gets away with the stuff he’s done. Of [...]

iLife 04

I’m working on a belated X-mas DVD, and last night was my first chance to really give iLife 04 a spin. It’s evolutionary, but has some nice features. iPhoto’s performance boost being the most welcome.

GarageBand is fun. Made it easy for me to do a little custom loop track for the background [...]

Logic Express

Apple finally decided what is was doing with the confusing eMagic Logic Audio product line. That’s good. If I out grow GarageBand, I’ve got another good option. I briefly used eMagic’s entry level product on OS 9, and liked the interface.

TV

So, Oswald and Stanley are OK, but when are my boys going to be old enough to watch Clint and John with me?

GarageBand movie window?

So if iLife is so integrated, where’s the synched movie window in GarageBand to score my iMovie? Hoping such a thing exists, but haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere.
