American Schmaltz

It’s Barry Manilow night on American Idol. I thought Neil Sedaka was a bit of a stretch last year, but Barry Manilow? I wonder who’s going to get stuck slogging through “I Can’t Smile Without You”.

    Ok, I gotta give Barry props. Yes, his songs were still schmaltz, but they updated arrangements for the American Idol finalists and it wasn’t that bad. Mostly. "Mandy" still was painful.
