O, Joy

Looks like I need to trigger another round of windows client updates around the office thanks to the JPEG vulnerability. Just how I wanted to spend my evenings.

From the Vault, Eiso You’re Killing the Lizards

While I was in college at NYU, one of my roommates was a Japanese-American goth rocker by the name of Eiso. He had long hair, wore boots up to his knees everyday and didn’t own any clothes that were not black. Eiso was a very nice guy but a bit of a dingbat [...]

RE: Frontier open source release

Dave’s morning coffee notes regarding the Frontier release is a good listen for anyone that has a history with Frontier. Lots of heartfelt details about it’s life span and where it is at now.

Frontier open source release

Congrats to those contributing for getting out the first open source release of Frontier. I’d like to see it get some traction.

Huh?

This is some kind of joke, isn’t it? I find it very hard to believe a network would lock itself into a commitment like that for the year 2009.

eBay’ing the LPs, Reggae and Jazz

Several more lots of the LPs up on eBay now:

8 Avant Jazz LPs, Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, more: These are some the great pieces of 60s “Free Jazz” — very experimental and improvisation. Very challenging music, this ain’t no Dave Brubeck.
5 Roots Reggae LPs, Burning Spear, Culture, more: Very rootsy stuff. Includes my favorite [...]

From the Vault, vol. 2

Here’s two more gems from the cassette modernization project. First a solo acoustic guitar instrumental from around 1991. I think this was recorded straight in the condenser mic of a boombox. Second, a punked up Arlo Guthrie cover from around 1989.

Instrumental, Acoustic

TiVO Rewards

I just signed up for a TiVO Rewards card. I should have a free TiVO for the bedroom before you know it!

eBay’ing the LPs, Bob Dylan

After a long hiatus, I’m getting back to selling off the record collection on eBay. This week, I’m featuring 5 lots of Bob Dylan records: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Highlights of this batch include the excellent 5 LP “Biograph” box set, and batch 1 which contains the three “must-have” Dylan albums, “Bring [...]

Factory car stereos are weird

I’ve been trying to figure out what I need to be able to hook up my iPod directly into my car stereo. Turns out this is more complex than I thought. I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe, with a “premium” sound system which consists of 6 speakers and a subwoofer and a single [...]

Can I vote for Kerry?

I’m an undecided voter. I couldn’t be much more anti-Bush, but I’m not quite sure I can bring myself to vote for Kerry either. I often tell myself it doesn’t make much difference, since I live in Texas and the state will surely go to Bush in a landslide. Typically, I vote [...]

From the Vault, vol. 1

Here’s my first two tracks dredged from the vault, or rather from the cassette. These are circa 1987-8 and are among my early experiments with a cassette 4-track and drum machine. These particular tracks are solo ventures. I did all the instruments, production, etc. The first is probably a product of [...]

Shotgun, Shotgun, Shotgun

Another note for those who may play Doom 3. With the except of the Marine Zombies who are armed with machine guns, I have yet to run into any beast that isn’t best dispatched with the good old shotgun. That is, assuming, you are deft at moving in a FPS game, because you [...]

Leave it alone!

George Lucas needs to leave it alone! Or at least offer the original untainted versions before offering the screwy new versions.

Our rooter

Something’s been rooting in our landscaping beds in the front yard for the last month or two. Not every night, but quite often, we come out and find all the mulch turned up. We have a lot of bunnies in the neighborhood (and a few coyotes) but it wasn’t typical of what they [...]
