Faster DSL

I ordered the upgrade to SBC Yahoo! DSL Pro. It’s not that much more expensive, and offers 3mbps down/416kbps upload speed. The standard service I have now is advertised at 1.5/128 (soon to be 256 up), and I average around 900-1.2 down and 140k upload…so I expect a bit better than that.

The better upload speed is the main draw for me. I do a lot more two-way traffic than your average home user. It’s a shame that I’m not taking advantage of the fiber-to-my-home in our neighborhood, but it’s $53/mo. for their 3.0/128 service if you don’t subscribe to their cable, and I’m not interested in their lame cable service. Someday I’m sure that wiring will pay off though.

Fiber is only 3.0/128??? That’s ridiculously slow! Man I would have
expected something approaching T1 speeds for upstream, at least.

    (There’s me being naive again!)

oh, it’s capable of way more, that’s just the service they are offering
right now. Verizon is starting to rollout 10/20/30 mbps fiber service
in some other fiber-based communities — that’s what I meant by taking
advantage of it in the future.

the lopsided upload limits are a real annoying ISP trait that doesn’t
accomplish much, to my mind. sort of like the ISPs who block all
traffic on port 25 except to their mail server.
