Our rooter

Something’s been rooting in our landscaping beds in the front yard for the last month or two. Not every night, but quite often, we come out and find all the mulch turned up. We have a lot of bunnies in the neighborhood (and a few coyotes) but it wasn’t typical of what they would do. Kt’s dad speculated it was an armadillo. I can now confirm that, as I ran into to him taking out the trash this morning. I scolded him a bit about the mess he leaves and then watched him run off under the fence that connects to the mobile home community behind us. I suppose I should thank him. He’s probably keeping our grub worms from becoming a problem.

There’s still quite a lot of armadillos in urbanized areas of Texas, but you usually only see them as roadkill. In fact, I’m quite surprised he was still around after the sun came up, but it had only just come up so I guess I caught him on his commute home.
