RSS feeds for topics
I added RSS feeds for each topic on this site. If you are one of the few using an RSS reader, you can now subscribe to any topic individually and get any comments that have been added. It’s sort of a silly feature, as few comments as I get, but I saw it at Steve Ivy’s site and wanted to add it here.

Maybe it’s just because it’s a feature that I would use but I don’t think it’s silly, even on a low-volume site. I just saw this on Steve’s site as well and thought it was a good idea, even if only the occassional thread generates enough interest to use it
This was one of the early features that made QuickTopic popular. A commentor is likely to want to know if they’ve gotten a response or spurred other activity. And they probably want to track it without getting lots unrelated stuff. Grabbing a targetd RSS feed seems the most efficient way to monitor the thread. Better by far, and more likely to be used, than an e-mail subscription to the whole site.
There are some UI challenges to make it easy and intuitive to grab the RSS but, especially for users who collect RSS in one of the e-mail-based readers, it makes a lot of sense. Thanks for implementing this. Now if I can just figure out how to copy it…

it’s a full thread page, with RSS templates, and the mimetype set to
text/xml. i’ll try to get some sample templates posted sometime.
