eBay’ing the LPs: Punk invasion
Ok, I’ve delved back into the punk and proto-new wave 1980s era. These albums pretty much all date to my High School (and a couple to my junior high) years.
- 2 Joy Division LPs: Ah, the joy of suicidal, angst-ridden new wave. Powerful, emotional stuff.
- 2 Patti Smith Group LPs: Horse is her best IMHO. Dang she could rock back in the day. Interesting that Lenny Kaye (her guitarist)’s latest effort is a book about Crooners in the 1930s.
- 2 Pere Ubu LPs: Hard to explain this band if you haven’t heard them. Likely the most unusual thing to ever come out of Cleveland…at least musically speaking.
- 6 Punk Collections: These were some of the core records of my youth, especially Flex Your Head, which was the quintessential collection of the DC punk scene at the time.
- 2 Robyn Hitchcock LPs: Always wanted to like his quirky blend of Lennon and Syd Barrett more than I actually did.
- 2 Wire LPs: Pink Flag was a defining record for me. Even more than the Ramones, Wire taught me the value of being concise. Their pop-punk songs are often only a minute or two long…but get across the point without any padding or fat.
