AutoLink

Dave’s comments on Google’s AutoLink feature are a little scattered but mostly right. Google has done some interesting things with the Google Toolbar. I tested the new beta out and agree that AutoLink is intrusive. I don’t like that it’s altering the content of pages, particularly in a way that’s difficult to [...]

Home network

I went to hook up the free TiVo last week and discovered two things. First, you have to do the initial setup of the TiVo via a phone line. That’s kinda lame, to my mind…since as soon as you finish that, you can switch it over to the broadband connection. The setup [...]

They come in threes

They say celebrity deaths come in threes. Hunter, Sandra Dee and John Raitt make for an interesting trio. Particularly the seemingly opposite public personas of Hunter and Sandra.

Hunter S. Thompson

Hunter S. Thompson commits suicide. Hunter was a true American original, warts and all. His writing was all over the place, but it was also entertaining and insightful.

The shattered cube

Pieces of the shattered cube
Danced
Like so many dry rice grains
Scattered on a vibrating electric football field.

And as I reassemble it,
I miss that purposeful randomness
Which visited my childhood.

Google dissed me

I’ve been booted out of the Google Adsense program, because of “invalid clicks.” I have no idea how Google came to that conclusion, since I don’t have much ad click through traffic and don’t do anything to try to generate clicks manually or automatically — but they aren’t willing to provide any further explanation [...]

Expert C# Business Objects

Expert C# Business Objects is the best technical book I’ve read in quite a while. A lot of technical books these days seem like they were rushed to press, or are not very well thoughtout…or are simply reference books. The reference books are very useful in their own way, but rarely help you [...]

This Flower

A belated valentine for my sweetie…

Well this flower is my soul
But it’s not half of what I owe
I should give you every rose that I ever grew
But take this one here for a start
And you can keep it in your heart
I have everything I need because of you

All the flowers growing wild
For ten thousand lonely [...]

On the upswing of a couple of day bout with the Flu. The boys had it too. Yuck.

Flying solo

I lost my help at work today. He got a better offer, and I wish him well…but now I’m the only computer guy again. Oh well. Been there before.

TiVo’s Super Bowl stats

PVRBlog points to TiVo’s Super Bowl stats. Very cool visual representation. I was amongst those a little behind live — since we paused the game for dinner.

Google Maps

Seth just gave me an intro to Google Maps, and I have to agree, it’s just awesome. What a slick interface, with incredible depth of functionality.

ASSP is great!

Just to follow up on my new email solution, ASSP is great! In fact, since I finished training it, it’s been essentially perfect, not letting any spam through. I’m afraid it’s catching a few false positives, but I’ve been reviewing the classifications it does and can find any.

Because of it’s largely Bayesian approach, [...]
