AutoLink

Dave’s comments on Google’s AutoLink feature are a little scattered but mostly right. Google has done some interesting things with the Google Toolbar. I tested the new beta out and agree that AutoLink is intrusive. I don’t like that it’s altering the content of pages, particularly in a way that’s difficult to discern. I don’t want links random links inserted into the pages I create. I think the idea itself is a good one. I think the way it’s presented in the toolbar, with a drop down list of the AutoLinks found in the page is fine…it’s helpful information, that is clearly separated from the content. Why can’t they just leave it at that?
