The case against high-level components

I tend to agree with most of David Heinemeier Hansson’s thoughts on engines and components and his case against high-level components.

I’ve been enamored by the use of high-level components on a number of projects, and just to find myself eventually replacing the ones I’ve used with functionality of my own, but the piece never quite fit the way I had hoped.

As I fiddle with Ruby on Rails this base philosophy makes the system very attractive.
