My stamp on the Library of Congress

Just happened upon a notation on the web that the Library of Congress’s collection finding aids were available in PDF format online now. They probably have been for a while, but I had never thought to look. I did a fellowship in the Library’s Music Division in the Summer of 1993, during which time I processed two collections and wrote the accompanying finding aids.

The far more substantial collection was essentially the contents of the attic of Mary Cardwell Dawson, the founder of the National Negro Opera Company. The NNOC was extremely active in the post war years and was the breeding ground for Paul Robson, Marian Anderson and others who would breakdown racial barriers in classical music. See finding aid for more details.

The other, smaller collection, was materials related to the career of Burl Ives.

It’s fun to find these resources online.

.. and there’s proof (if needed), right there on page 5.

    That’s pretty nifty.
