My year in music, 2006

The biggest and best things in my musical life this year are more about the distribution channel than the music. The first is eMusic, the second Pandora.
If you are a regular music consumer, ie, not a casual listener, but a person who regularly explores and purchases music, you need to get an eMusic account [...]

Deficit thinking

Sound advice for the New Year. Going “independent” with my career has made me more and more aware of how often I let myself toil over others’ often vacant appraisals of my “gaps” and needless it was/is to do so. I’m still finding my footing in my new environment, but the future’s [...]

Servoy CRUD events

A little bird tells me Servoy’s getting event hooks for CRUD events in the next update. Sweet. That’s been my biggest beef with the product to date, because it makes it hard to avoid repeating your code in multiple forms without them.

Old friend needs help

Internet’s a funny place sometimes. Just checking my digg feed this morning and I see J Robbins’ name. I know J back to high school days. He’s a bass player in the indie band Jawbox, and was once in Government Issue — for those familiar with the DC punk scene. J [...]

Java 6

I installed Java 6 today. The main Java app I’m using at the moment is Servoy and it’s a noticeable difference. It’s really snappy launching apps, and text finally has excellent anti-aliasing.
I really haven’t looked at the release notes, but I haven’t run into any compatibility issues yet with either Servoy or Eclipse.

Chatham County Line: Route 23

Artist: Chatham County Line
Album: Route 23
Rating: 5 out of 5

Media: CD
Genre: Bluegrass
Favorite songs

Parlor Light
Route 23

While not the newest record, Route 23 is the best thing I’ve dug up with my new eMusic membership. I love bluegrass, but I often find the song writing rather dry. So many of [...]

Tons of Storage

I just ordered 750 gig of hard drive. Pretty good deal at NewEgg, I think. Free 250gig drive with the 500gig. Adequately backing up the 4 computers in my home was becoming a problem on only a 300 gig drive in the backup machine.

eBay: G5 off the market

Sold the G5 prior to the end of the auction. Had a local guy get in touch needing it fast, since his G4 tanked on him the day before. We agreed on a price and he drove by and picked it up. Easy as can be, and I think I got a [...]

Firebug

Though widely blogged already, one of my favorite developer tools, Firebug just release a major update. If you work with HTML/CSS/JS, you really need this Firefox extension.

Sploids

Got legos? Got k’nex? Sploids will interconnect them. Sweet. Think our household will need some of these.

eBay: G5

My G5 PowerMac is on eBay this week. Bid away!
It’s a good machine, but I just don’t have a use for it since I got the MacBook Pro.
