Movie: Old School

Kt and I watched Old School Monday night. I think it was the first movie we’ve watched together in months. It was stupid. It was funny. It was a relaxing break from all the prep for selling the old house. Kt’s parents loaned us the DVD of Chicago, which we [...]

Oh man, I wanna see this movie.

AFI craziness

I’m not sure I understand the point of the AFI list of the greatest heroes and villians. Beyond simply being a ploy to get a little press coverage.

The #20 villian cracked my up though, “Man, in Bambi”. I don’t know what kind of film historians they are, either…Freddy Kruger is on there, but [...]

RE: Matrix Reloaded

Loved it! Didn’t make any sense, but luckily I’ve never thought that was a requirement for a good movie…visually brilliant!

Matrix Revisited

Steve Silberman, author of the Matrix article in Wired that I pointed to the other day, found my post and pointed to some outtakes from the article. Cool! Thanks for dropping by, Steve.

Matrix Reloaded - John Gaeta

Steve points to a great article/interview about the special effects on the new Matrix movie. John Gaeta, the special effects director, was one of my best friends in college…so I love to read about what he’s doing these days.

It’s funny to read his story from a journalistic perspective and see where there [...]

New Spider-Man?

Reports say Toby Maguire may pull out of the Spider-Man sequel because of back problems. Too bad, I thought he was very good in the first. The article says Jake Gyllenhaal has been lined up as a possible replacement. I didn’t know who he was so I looked up his website. [...]

Back to the Movies

After a year off from the movies ( not intentional, we just never had time ), we’ve started renting some again since we got the el-cheapo DVD player for X-mas. What we’ve been discovering is, Kt and I are a pretty tough audience to please.

Friday night we watched Minority Report. Visually stunning, and [...]

Harry Potter 2

We went to see Harry Potter 2 last Friday afternoon. Eh…so-so. Well made, but it just kinda seemed to sit there. I never really was drawn into it…which is something the first film sufferred from also, but not quite as bad. Oh well.

Use the force, Think!

Watched Star Wars: Episode II this weekend. What a waste of celluloid. Or pixels, I guess — it was shot all digital. I didn’t like Episode I at all, but I thought this couldn’t be any worse. It was! I don’t know what’s going on in Lucas’s mind. These [...]

Death to Smoochy

Watched Death to Smoochy last night. Very funny. Not quite as funny as Shakes the Clown, but a similar warped behind-the-scenes take on children’s entertainment.

Signs

We went to see Signs on Friday for Kt’s birthday. I was a bit let down. It was well written and had interesting direction…and had some really funny stuff we enjoyed in the first half, but it never really tied together in a satisfactory way — and the end was a real let [...]

Freddy vs. Jason???

Is this really necessary? Even I, a long time fan of crappy horror movies, thinks this is a bit much. Not that it surprises me, just that it’s completely uninspired. Anyone who’s seen Dracula vs. Frankenstein knows that.
