This had me LOL.

I just wanna have something to do
Johnny’s gone now, too. The Ramones were pretty pivotal in my life for a while, around 8th grade. I still rock out them in the car. Sad that they all passed so young. Ok, Tommy’s still around, but I don’t really count their drummers.

Note to Dave: iTunes works with other players
Dave Winer seemed to have missed the fact that iTunes work with quite a few common non-iPod MP3 players, and did long before the iPod came around.

Vox Bass
I’m selling a 1960s Vox Astro IV Bass on eBay for my father-in-law. It’s a real classic he came across in an estate sale.

RIP, Ray Charles
I think one could reasonably argue that Ray Charles had a greater influence over America than Ronald Reagan. Most probably wouldn’t agree, but his egalitarian music and audience preceded and predicted some of the most important social changes of the last century. Plus, he rocked!

Celebrity Mix
Having made more than a few mixed tapes in my day, I found this pretty funny.

Flaming Lips online Jukebox
This is cool. Listen to the whole record. Neat graphics. More record labels should be doing this. (Oh yea, it’s a really good record, too.)

The Bottom Line + CBGB
Well, I just followed up, and the effort to save the Bottom Line Cabaret was unsuccessful. Too bad. My old alma-mater, NYU, ate it up. Doesn’t really surprise me, it’s location already seemed hopelessly overwhelmed by the university when I was there in the 80s.
Made me pang for my NY days a [...]

RE: American Schmaltz
Ok, I gotta give Barry props. Yes, his songs were still schmaltz, but they updated arrangements for the American Idol finalists and it wasn’t that bad. Mostly. "Mandy" still was painful.

American Schmaltz
It’s Barry Manilow night on American Idol. I thought Neil Sedaka was a bit of a stretch last year, but Barry Manilow? I wonder who’s going to get stuck slogging through “I Can’t Smile Without You”.

Darn that Seth Dillingham
Seth more or less challenged me to take a 80’s music trivia-like test yesterday. Well, I took it this morning. I did even worse than him, 38.5 — which isn’t really fair because if I resubmitted my answers claiming I was born after Woodstock (which he was) I tied him. But that [...]

00-45S 1902
Sometimes I’m just in the mood to drool over a fancy guitar I can never own.

Paul Burch
Been enjoying Paul Burch this week, thanks to Jim for the tip. Really nice mellow country, with both a traditional bent and a modern sound.

Logic Express
Apple finally decided what is was doing with the confusing eMagic Logic Audio product line. That’s good. If I out grow GarageBand, I’ve got another good option. I briefly used eMagic’s entry level product on OS 9, and liked the interface.

Save the Bottom Line
I hope they save the Bottom Line. I didn’t see too many shows there in my New York days, mostly because it was a bit pricey for my student budget, but I did see a number of shows that I quite enjoyed — and it’s a place with a lot of music history, which [...]
