In case you feel you don’t have enough information to make a meaningful decision about the appropriateness of teaching Intelligent Design in tandem with Darwinism, The Daily Show is running a special series, Evolution Schmevolution all week long that should help you fill in the blanks.
Plus, tonight’s guest is Kurt Vonnegut.

RIP, Gatemouth
There will be many sad story of loss in the musical community from the fallout of Katrina, I’m sure. The death of Clarence ‘Gatemouth’ Brown is one that struck me.
Saturday afternoon I had just be sorting out my remaining vinyl records to go on eBay, and the couple of Gatemouth records there haunted me. [...]

eBay’ing the LPs: Lou Reed and Velvet Underground
After a considerable hiatus from the venture, I just got the first 10 batches of Lou Reed and Velvet Underground LPs up on eBay. Should have the rest up in the next day or two. Lou was a very important musician in my formative years, so I attained a few interesting promo pieces [...]

NBC to stop trying to annoy DVR owners
NBC’s going to stop shifting programs by a few minutes this Fall. I hope the other networks follow suit. It’s just plain annoying. Of course, if the other networks don’t follow suit, this does me little good, because I don’t think I watch anything on NBC.

Santorum on Daily Show
Sen. Rick Santorum was on the Daily Show last night. Pretty funny. John Stewart did a good job of not being rude to him, while still pointing out that he was a right-wing nut job. He started out the interview on “common ground” by getting Santorum to agree that ice cream was [...]

30 Days
F/X has a great new show, 30 Days, done by Morgan Spurlock — who got acclaim for the documentary Super Size Me last year. I haven’t seen that show, but am really enjoying 30 days. The basic concept is to take one or two individuals and put them in a really alien environment [...]

Half-Life 2
I finished Half-Life 2 over the weekend. Definitely the best FPS I’ve ever played. And if you have any questions about the physics in the game engine, check this out. It’s not from the game, but it’s built using the add-ons.

Audacity
Audacity looks like a handy app to have around. And free, too. I often need a simple audio app to edit an MP3 — just to slice off some silence at the end, etc.

Props
I have great respect for Merle Haggard’s ability to effortlessly rhyme the words “ain’t” and “drink”.

Now I’m dangerous
After cleaning up my desk last night, I decided it was time to hook my Tascam US-428 MIDI/Audio interface back up to the G5. Thanks to GarageRemote I now have it working as a control surface for GarageBand…using the following settings:
Return to start- BF 18 7F F7
Rewind- BF 60 7F F7
Play- BF 16 7F [...]

Sith, Schmith, or when Stars Wars lost me.
I have no desire to see the new Star Wars movie. This is something of a surprise. I was about as much at the center of the Stars Wars generation as you get. I saw the first movie in the theaters 6 times. I have vivid memories of the disappointment I [...]

Sooooo wrong
What is soooo wrong?
That I feed my children Burger King kid’s meals? Well, yes, probably.
That Burger King is activity advertising a PG-13 “extremely dark” Star Wars movie to kids under the age of 5? Well, yes, definitely.
But, really, what I’m here to talk about it the toy pictured below that was included in [...]

Franken-Tele
I recently mentioned to my Uncle Robert (aka “Fat Frank” of Fat Frank and the Plank Spankers) that I had been without an electric guitar since selling my ‘71 Tele on eBay. He took responsibility for righting this wrong and shipped me off a gem of a Franken-Tele. It’s a bright red tele [...]

Bo Bice
So, I’m an American Idol fan. I doubt I ever would have gotten into the show if not for Kt, but I did. And, I gotta say, Bo Bice rocks. It’s hard to image anyone on this show could have ever rocked, given the limitations of the highly professional but stiff house [...]
