Fat Frank on TV
My Uncle Robert, aka “Fat Frank” of Fat Frank and the Plank Spankers, is going to appear on this week’s installment of the Antique Roadshow on PBS. He’ll be the one with the Ukelele. If you can’t catch that, you can always just watch him on YouTube.

Equalize your cheese
Having now viewed disk 1 of season 1 of Land of the Lost, I truly realize that it’s important to equalize your cheese. If your content is cheesy, your introduction to it should be as well.
The modern, relatively slick, DVD menus — while not extreme — are overdone and only generate a let down [...]

Reproducing your childhood
The persistence and availability of media creates interesting challenges for today’s parent. Yes, you’ve got to ask interesting questions about yourself, your parenting style and your goals for your children when you find yourself considering adding the entire first season of Land of the Lost to your NetFlix queue.
Such is the position I found [...]

Man, Elvis is cool!
Elvis is so drippingly cool that I really found myself enjoying the superficially catastrophic pairing of his archive footage with Celine Dion on American Idol last night. Wow.

Prehistoric Park
Prehistoric Park is a very cool new 6-part series, courtesy of the BBC, running on Animal Planet right now. Imagine “Walking with the Dinosaurs”, crossed with “The Little Zoo That Could” and “Stargate.”
It’s played as a straight documentary, featuring the specimen acquisition and housing travails of a Zoo which happens to have a time [...]

Kolchak memories
This Washington Post column rings true in a few too many ways for me. (Thanks for the pointer, Dad!) I would say I’m a bit more resigned to it that this guy though. I don’t even bother to buy the DVDs.

Lazy Sunday, revisited
Ok, I have to admit to being a huge fan of the SNL Lazy Sunday video. And, amazingly, seeing it remade with two 5th graders is just as funny.

MPFreaker and AudioFaucet
MPFreaker (Mac only) is a way cool app that searches a variety of Internet sources to locate the correct information and artwork for the songs in your MP3 collection, then updates the tags with that info. Sweet.
Also, the beta of AudioFaucet is finally out. It’s a renamed and updated version of iSeeiTunes, which [...]

Evolution Schmevolution
In case you feel you don’t have enough information to make a meaningful decision about the appropriateness of teaching Intelligent Design in tandem with Darwinism, The Daily Show is running a special series, Evolution Schmevolution all week long that should help you fill in the blanks.
Plus, tonight’s guest is Kurt Vonnegut.

NBC to stop trying to annoy DVR owners
NBC’s going to stop shifting programs by a few minutes this Fall. I hope the other networks follow suit. It’s just plain annoying. Of course, if the other networks don’t follow suit, this does me little good, because I don’t think I watch anything on NBC.

Santorum on Daily Show
Sen. Rick Santorum was on the Daily Show last night. Pretty funny. John Stewart did a good job of not being rude to him, while still pointing out that he was a right-wing nut job. He started out the interview on “common ground” by getting Santorum to agree that ice cream was [...]

30 Days
F/X has a great new show, 30 Days, done by Morgan Spurlock — who got acclaim for the documentary Super Size Me last year. I haven’t seen that show, but am really enjoying 30 days. The basic concept is to take one or two individuals and put them in a really alien environment [...]

Bo Bice
So, I’m an American Idol fan. I doubt I ever would have gotten into the show if not for Kt, but I did. And, I gotta say, Bo Bice rocks. It’s hard to image anyone on this show could have ever rocked, given the limitations of the highly professional but stiff house [...]

TiVo and Tiger
I’m sure TiVo will have out a compatibility release of the TiVo Desktop soon, but in the meantime, these instructions worked for me to get v1.9.1 to run under Tiger.
