TiVo and Comcast

Wow! Some good news for my TiVo stock. I’m not entirely sure it’s really great news for TiVo. Despite 2/3rds of their subscribers coming via DirecTV, only 10% of their revenues do, and I expect that Comcast negotiated similar if not better terms for their deal. At least is sounds like [...]

Wonder if I was #3 million

We received our free TiVo yesterday and I set it up last night. I wonder if I was subscriber number 3 million.

TiVo’s Super Bowl stats

PVRBlog points to TiVo’s Super Bowl stats. Very cool visual representation. I was amongst those a little behind live — since we paused the game for dinner.

Who will buy Tivo for scrap?

Speculation on a TiVo buyout. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to see a buyout in the near future, with the stock dipping as low as it is. It’s a valuable brand in a growing space. TiVo been coming out with a lot of great new things for the geeks, like the [...]

The second TiVo is on the way

Thanks to the TiVo Rewards program a new 140 hour TiVo is now on the way to us. It’s our second and will be hooked up in the bedroom. With multi-room viewing, we can now TiVo something different than we are watching, or TiVo two things at once — which is our current [...]

New concepts in architecture

I’m sitting here watching This Old House, and their insert segment is about a team of Yale architecture students that design and build a house for a low income family. Every single one of the students, graduate level architecture students, has zero building experience. They are saying things like “I’ve never even driven [...]

TiVo Ads

TiVo’s new advertising strategy seems to be upsetting some people.
Must admit, it doesn’t bother me. Maybe I’m substantially googlized to the point that I think it’s pretty normal to find advertising banners everywhere I look, don’t know. Notice both of those people complaining about it have google banner ads on their websites.
I think [...]

Free Showtime

DirecTV has just been nice enough to offer us 4 months of free Showtime (and the 8 or so other related premium channels). This morning I TiVo’d Master of the Flying Guillotine, aka One-Armed Boxer vs. the Flying Guillotine. I know Kt will be dying to watch that with me.

Fun TiVo stuff

I’ll have to play with some of this stuff sometime.

Huh?

This is some kind of joke, isn’t it? I find it very hard to believe a network would lock itself into a commitment like that for the year 2009.

TiVO Rewards

I just signed up for a TiVO Rewards card. I should have a free TiVO for the bedroom before you know it!

The TV

It seems that I may be the only one around our house who doesn’t think we need a bigger TV right now. Which, I guess is odd. Isn’t it usually the “dad” that wants to buy those new toys? Katie came home from looking at some open houses in the neighborhood yesterday and [...]

TiVO++

Oh, man…they’re making me want another TiVO. Multi-room viewing? Yum.

Mars and Venus

Kt and I were watching Las Vegas last night. As I watched James Caan be particularly hard-boiled in one scene, I said, “You know, I really need to watch Rollerball” (thinking, its been waaay too long since I’ve seen it).
Kt looked at me kind of blankly, and said, “What’s that?” Ah. Then [...]

TechTV staff fired

Bummer. I don’t watch TechTV that much, but I have always enjoyed The ScreenSavers, and watch it when it happens to come on a time that it’s convenient to watch.
