Strip “.svn” folder from Subversion working copy

It seems like there’s probably a much easier way to do this, but I had a Rails project under Subversion, where I lost access to the original repository.  In a perfect world, you’d just do an export from the repo to get a clean copy of the code, but I could do that — so [...]

iphone day 1

So far so good. Refurbished priced suckered me. Still getting used to the keyboard, but it’s good enough to type this much. It’s slightly right handed, but I’m used to getting screwed as a lefty.

PMC Software Auction

Seth’s charity software auction is exploding this year. Tons of great stuff, proceeds going to fight cancer — can’t beat that. I mean, when you donate to charity, who really wants a tote bag. But Mac productivity applications? Sweet!

RFC: Reading material

Ok, I’m bored. About 6 months ago I did a major RSS feed purge. I had a few too many time wasters in the list, and I migrated to Google Reader from NetNewWire at the same time…but, now, I’m bored. I don’t want junk, but I need a few more good tech [...]

Tons of Storage

I just ordered 750 gig of hard drive. Pretty good deal at NewEgg, I think. Free 250gig drive with the 500gig. Adequately backing up the 4 computers in my home was becoming a problem on only a 300 gig drive in the backup machine.

RIP, CBGBs

I’ve posted about the CBGBs saga before, but it’s appeared that the end is near. Actually, I think it’s perfect that they are going to take everything out and build a replica of the original in Las Vegas. That’s just so strangely ironic, yet cool, at the same time. The home of [...]

Computer sale

I’m going to sell off some computer equipment as I refit my equipment to my new needs. If you, or anyone you know, is interested in any of the following, let me know — otherwise, it’s going on eBay soon.

PowerMac G5, 1.8 MHz, 1.5 gig RAM, 160 gig drive, Superdrive.
Dell Dimension desktop, 2.8 MHz [...]

Squidly Diddly, reprise

After a brief look at my logs tonight, I discovered that I’m the 3rd hit on a Google search for “Squidly Diddly”, thanks to this post — which actually has nothing to do with the cartoon.

I love the weird thing they call the Internet.

Custom Events in Javascript

Seth has done some very cool work with custom events in JavaScript, and thoroughly documented it as well. A very clever solution to a problem not well handled by the current batch of browsers.

Corrupt gem source_cache

I just got bit by a corrupt gem source_cache file. Just noting this so I’ll remember it if I run into it again. It came up trying to install gems, as an ArgumentError.

RailsConf: Thursday morning

First half of the Guidebook session today concentration on Ruby. Some of it was a bit basic, so I wrote code for that part. The second half of it was great though and help me clarify some of the ways Ruby handles class/modules/mix-ins.
The afternoon session is about to start up, and will focus [...]
