Anyone remember exactly when Userland released Manila? I was looking at the date, and realizing I think I’ve been blogging for about 10 years. I started briefly with an static site, using Frontier’s web framework, then moved to Manila — running on a 68k Quadra over my 128k DSL line, sometime around 1998. Wow, time flies.

I didn’t migrate my Manila site to Conversant, when I moved to it, but the archives of this site go back to that change on March 26, 2000.

It was really, really fun to be involved in a community that was developing blogging in the early days. First in the Userland Frontier community, later as an extension of that community with the Macrobyte gang.

Ok, really just an excuse to play with Dashcode, but, yes, ladies and gentlemen, I now have a custom Dashboard Widget for this blog. Please download if you’re of the OS X persuasion.

Installed a new look for the blog today. Nothing fancy…in fact, pretty stripped down. I’m debating a new look/CMS for my business site — debating Wordpress vs. Mephisto. I could pretty easily do what I need with either, but I want to incorporate a blog directed toward my clients, so I need to do something.

Updating the look of this site a little was mostly an excuse to play with Wordpress themes a bit to see how I like it. Pretty simple if you start with a “blank” theme and don’t have to actually touch the PHP.

Following Sean’s lead, I finally switched my RSS feed over to Feedburner. So update your RSS links to point to: http://feeds.feedburner.com/agiletortoise — if you partake in such things.

The old links will still work, just redirect to Feedburner, for now.

If you are one of the folks who prefers to receive my blog via email, I’ve installed the subcribe2 WordPress plugin. See the subscribe page for the appropriate links to setup your subscription.

Let me know if you have any problems with it. I installed it, and have subscribed myself and successfully received the last few posts, but I haven’t tested it as a non-admin users. Note that it’s nowhere near as cool as Conversant’s email interface. You can’t respond to the email posts and have them work as comments or anything.

Man. All I’m hearing about my move to WordPress is, “PHP!?!?!?!”

After much consideration, hestitation and general mixed feelings about the idea, I’ve decided to move into a new blog. This is blog is powered by WordPress. I’ve imported all my old content back to when I started blogging in Conversant in early 2000 (I blogged in Manila for a bit before that).

Conversant continues to be a great blogging/CMS platform, and I have a lot of attachment to it since I’m a major contributor to the codebase — however, I’ve been trying to do a number of things to force myself out of my comfort zone lately, and this is one of them.

So here I am. Continuing to spew my usual mix of randomness into the void.

This is my first post on this new domain/blog. I’ve brought over all my content from my old site, and think I’m ready to go. Still getting comfortable with the WordPress theme system, so it’ll probably be a little while until I’m happy with the look and feel of the site, but, here I am.
