From the Vault, vol. 4

Here’s another one from the vault. I’ll call this one Movie Music, not that is was. Just that it sounds like it could have been. Sounds like this one was all sequenced, no live instrument tracks.
This was circa 1990. My setup was Voyetra DOS-based MIDI software, on an original model IBM [...]

RE: Frontier open source release

Dave’s morning coffee notes regarding the Frontier release is a good listen for anyone that has a history with Frontier. Lots of heartfelt details about it’s life span and where it is at now.

RE: Plone, Active Directory authentication, Mac OS X

To add to this, I was unable to store group information in Plone and have it apply properly to the LDAP authenticated users — so I setup dedicated groups in Active Directory, and changed my group source in acl_users to LDAP, then configured mapping to the Plone roles…then it all worked great!

RE: Playground

Kt posted a new shot of the playground, which now has a roof. Once I get the swing set on there, it’ll be done. For now. I expect annual additions will be made.

crossword

i used to be very fond of crosswords, but for some reason I pretty much stopped doing them. to kill time at the airport, I just got the paper to do the crossword. what a disapointment. I just waltzed right through it. it wasn’t a nyt puzzle. way to easy. [...]

National Walk to Work Day

Kt tells me it’s National Walk to Work Day. So I did. All the way upstairs to the office.

Dave re: NPR

Dave Winer complains about NPR:

And I wish they’d come up with a new way to distribute the content so I can download MP3s into my portable player and skip the pledge drive.

Well, they have. You can get most NPR content at Audible.com, iPod compatible, on a subscription-basis — and they mention this regularly on [...]

Happy Birthday, Dr. Suess

It would have been Dr. Seuss’s 100th Birthday today.
Highlight of the linked article? His widow says, after the Cat-in-the-Hat fiasco, NO MORE LIVE-ACTION SUESS MOVIES!!! Thankfully. Wish they hadn’t made any.

RE: AppRocket

I got a nice note from one of the developers of AppRocket today, informing me that they finally had the issues with the delayed release I’d mentioned before worked out and hoping I’d give the final release a try.
Nice of them to follow up…in fact, I had subscribed to their RSS feed and already had [...]

Scion xB

Why am I so fond of really ugly cars? Going to have to test drive this one.

Pepsi/iTunes promo for Coke lovers

Want free tunes? Don’t like Pepsi? 7-11 has Big Gulp cups that part of the promo, too. Won a song on Saturday, and didn’t have to put up with a single sip of Pepsi!

Blind as a bat

Holy cow, I’m blind as a bat! At least in one eye. I guess part of me realized I really needed glasses for the better part of year, but I kept thinking it wasn’t all that bad…it is! My right eye is 20/200 with astigmatism…my left eye has apparently been carrying me [...]

RTFM

People are really lazy.

GarageBand

GarageBand, along with the other iLife app improvements, was the best of the announcements at MacWorld today. I was close to investing in an audio app, but it sounds like this will really do most of what I need.

Happy birthday to me

I’m now as close to 40 as I am to 30. How disturbing. Anyway…I took the day off work, had a nice lunch with my lovely wife and took a 3 hour nap, played with the boys. All around a pretty good day.
