agiletortoise.com updates
After doing the technological updates a couple weeks ago, I started refreshing the content of my business site today. Â Focusing it more on Servoy and Rails development, and I’ll be working on integrating some client/project info soon. Â Let me know if you catch any typos. ![]()

Tech refresh for the company site
With time that would probably have been better invested in actually improving the content of the site, I instead re-deployed my Agile Tortoise company website, in a far more buzzword compliant fashion. That’s right, rather than running on Rails 1.1.6, behind FastCGI on Apache 1.3 on a shared host with code in Subversion and [...]

Large client app online
I spent the weekend migrating data for one of my clients, and they are ‘live’ starting today on a large Servoy project management application I’ve been working on for the last year. The app has 160+ forms and reports.
The application handles most of them up-front business processes, Estimating and managing Jobs, through Invoicing, where [...]

Goplan
I’m starting to get back to work a little bit at a time after sequestering for some quality family time with the new baby. In an effort to get back on a solid footing with my never ending venture for personal organization and productivity, I’m giving Goplan a shot.
I’ve used Tracks, Kinkless GTD, Remember [...]

TAKScopes
Though a few details are still being worked out, the latest Ruby on Rails project I’ve been working on has been launched. Called TAKScopes, the site is a teaching resource site for primary level educators in Texas — created by the Science Science and Technology Department at Rice University.
Unfortunately, from a personal point of [...]

Big time
It was a difficult decision to leave my job of 11 years last Fall. I had wanted to for a long time, and was confident that I’d do well on my own — but, still, I had all the usual fears as the primary breadwinner and all. Luckily, I can report everything’s going [...]

Ketchup
I’m way behind on the blog, on a number of counts. But, I thought I’d at least play catchup on the professional situation. I’ve committed the majority of my hours to two ventures. First, I’m contracting back to my former employers for 20 hours a week, primarily to work on developing a [...]

Last day
Well, after several months of hiring, transition and general ramp up for my own enterprise, today is finally my last day as an employee of ALT Fabrication. I’m not sure it feels all that monumental right at the moment, but it definitely going to be a change. I’ve come close to leaving several [...]

Help is on the way
We’ve extended an offer for a new IT Manager at work to an impressive young guy who I think will work out well. This job search has been the primary reason I’ve remained in a holding pattern on getting the consulting business up and running, as I’ve agreed to stay on for approximately a [...]

Agile Tortoise website, v0.1
I’ve got up a first website for my new consulting venture, Agile Tortoise. I welcome comments, and please let me know if you catch any typos. It not very complete, but I had to get something up.

Quitting is hard work
I have a good deal of loyalty to my current employer, and I’ve found that quitting is difficult. No, not for the reasons you might think, but simply because I’ve been there so long and do so many things, big and little, there that it’s difficult to get it all cleaned up and ready [...]

Independence day announcement
“Everything that is really great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labor in freedom.”
–Albert Einstein
This has been in the works for several weeks, but it has been hush-hush at the office until yesterday so I was keeping my mouth shut. I’ve turned in notice at my job and will be working [...]

Tele-not-communications
As a person responsible for the phones and cellphones of a business, I would like to say that if any telecommunications company can get their act together and provide something vaguely resembling good customer service, they have my business.
I’ve been switching from Sprint to Cingular for our “executive” phone accounts. It’s been relatively smooth, [...]
